Thousands of tourists around the world come just to cross Europe’s most famous hiking gorge, the Samaria Gorge. Its length is 15km and the descent takes 5-7 hours from Omalos to Agia Roumeli. It is part of the European path E4 and was created by the river that flows between the main body of the White Mountains and Mount Volakias. Inside the gorge you will see the deserted village of Samaria, which was permanently abandoned in 1962.
