Private Tour: Elafonisi
Starting from your pickup point in Chania we make our first stop at the cave of Ag. Sophia. Then, we head to the enchanting Elafonisi beach and on our way back we make a stop at the Elos village.
After picking you up from your hotel or villa we head to admire the huge cave of Ag. Sophia. It is a cave of great importance as shells from the Neolithic, Classical and Roman periods have been found. It is divided into two rooms full of stalactites and stalagmites. At the entrance there is a small chapel, dedicated to Ag. Sophia.
We continue to Elafonisi beach, a place that you should definitely visit. The small island is protected by the Natura 2000 network because of the sand dunes and over 100 rare plants, such as sea lilies. The tiny pink shells on the sand, the shallow turquoise waters and the smell covers take the breath away of visitors who arrive from all over Crete to see the scenery up close and enjoy the waters.
At the end, we visit the Elos village which is surrounded by a forest with chestnut trees and plane trees. The village is crossed by the Xiropotamos stream and it is possible that a marsh formed in the area, from where it is named. In the village’s square you can see the old aqueduct, which is classified as a historical monument, as well as the church of Ag. Sophia the Theologus which dates back to the 14th century. If you visit the village at the end of October you will have the chance to join the chestnut festival that is organized every year, as it is the main product of the village.
