After picking you up from your hotel or villa we head to Europe’s most famous hiking gorge, the Samaria Gorge. Its length is 15km and the descent takes about 5-7 hours from Omalos to Agia Roumeli. It is part of the European path E4 and was created by the river that flows between the main body of the White Mountains and Mount Volakias. Inside the gorge you will see the deserted Samaria village that was abandoned in 1962. The trail starts from Xyloskalo, which leads you to an unforgettable scenery with deep ravines, springs with waters, rich flora and fauna with 450 species of plants and the famous kri kri goats.
At the end of the gorge we reach the beach of Agia Roumeli, a small picturesque village that can be reached either by hiking the gorge or by boat from the nearby beaches. The village’s beaches are wide and full of taverns serving local, traditional delicacies. The village is built on the ruins of an ancient city and you can still see some castle ruins.
