Private Tour: Chania City
Starting from your pickup point in Chania we head to visit the Monastery of Ag. Triada. Afterwards, we visit the Venizelos Tombs for a walk and some photos at the spectacular view. Then, we continue our route to the Archaeological Museum of Chania, the main city and the old port before boarding the bus to return to your hotel or villa.
After picking you up from your hotel or villa we visit the Monastery of Agia Triada, which is one of the richest and most beautiful monasteries in Crete. The Monastery stands out for its Renaissance architectural elements, since it was built in 1634 by the Cretan monks Jeremiah and Laurentio of the Venetian Orthodox family of Tzagarolos. Inside the Monastery there is a small museum that has been set up with lots of manuscripts and utensils as well as a large exhibition of wood carvings. Its natural environment is so neat and impressive with wells, flowers and seasonal plants. To this day the Monastery plays an important role in the religious and economic life of Crete, since it produces unique quality organic olive oil, wine, honey, vinegar and olive oil soap.
We continue our route to one of the most famous sights of the city, the Tombs of Venizelos, the well-known Greek politician Eleftherios Venizelos and his son Sophocles Venizelos. We will enjoy a walk in the peaceful park that has been formed around among the pine trees. Don’t miss to take some pictures of the wonderful panoramic view that overlooks the whole city and the port.
Heading to the city center we make a stop at the Archaeological Museum which is located in the historical area of Halepa and overlooks a large part of the city. In the permanent location of the museum you can see the rich archaeological stock of the regional unity of Chania over the centuries starting from the beginning of human existence, the prehistoric settlements and a variety of objects chronicling aspects of society, religion, entertainment, war and trade through people’s daily lives.
At the end, we will have the chance to tour the picturesque city of Chania, the main streets and the most magical part of the city, the old port. The port was built in the 14th century with intense Venetian elements and impressive architecture and it is undoubtedly a time travel full of historical interest. The imposing lighthouse, the narrow streets, the beautiful restaurants with Cretan delicacies, the busy cafes, the view towards the boats and the romantic aura make it an archaeological treasure.
