Private Tour: Aptera – Cretan villages
As soon as the cruise ship docks at the port of Souda, your guide will be waiting for you to start an enjoyable tour. Our first destination is the archaeological site of Aptera. We continue our route to Gavalochori to visit the village and optionally the local museum. Afterwards we head to Georgioupoli where there will be free time for coffee and tour before we board and return to the port of Souda.
After picking you up from the port of Souda we visit one of the most important city-states of Crete with huge archaeological interest. The history of Aptera begins in the Minoan Age, although its archaeological traces go back to the Geometric Age, the Hellenistic period and the Roman Empire. Its unique wealth is gradually emerging as scientific research and excavations don’t stop, and new important findings constantly come to light. The imposing fortification, the scattered monuments and the ancient theater will fascinate you and take you on a journey through the historical periods of Crete.
We continue our route to Gavalochori, a village with rich natural beauty and folk architecture. It’s one of the most picturesque villages in the province of Apokoronas and many old houses are preserved as a representative sample of the local architecture. Our last stop is Georgioupoli, another seaside village of Apokoronas full of trees that create a relaxing environment to enjoy your coffee in the square. The Almyros river flows into the port of the village and many residents choose that spot for fishing and swimming.
Experience the most beautiful parts of Crete! Your amazing tour ends with a comfortable transfer back to the port.
