Private traditional boat trip: Chania City Tour
You will be able to swim around the island of Lazareta and the island of Thodorou. You will be able to watch the rare kri-kri goat species and dive around the World War II plane wreck.
We start with our boat from the old port of Chania and we head to Lazareta, where you will be able to swim. Lazareta was used in the 17th century as a shelter for the city’s lepers and took its name from Lazarus, the patron of lepers. You can still see the foundations of buildings demolished by the Ottomans in 1645, while in some places you will see fragments from bombs. Lazareta is an island with a sandy beach and crystal clear waters that many people visit to explore.
Afterwards, we visit the Thodorou Island, where you will be able to swim in the crystal clear waters and you will have the opportunity to dive and see the World War II plane wreck up close. Observe the wild and rare kri-kri goat species in its natural environment which is under the protection of the island. The kri-kri goats were brought there to be saved from the hunters and to breed. The history of the island is very interesting as the Venetians decided in 1574 to build a fortress on the island in order to prevent the pirates and the Ottomans from invading the area of Platanias. Today, only a few ruins remain. However, the legend has another interpretation of the island, which is believed to have been a monster that approached and threatened Platanias along with a baby monster. The villagers couldn’t kill the two monsters and the women of the village began to pray, when suddenly, the two creatures turned into two large rocks.
